What made you get into new home sales? Rick: It was something that always interested me and that was buying and building and selling. I wanted full control to do all of it. I started off building convenience stores, then I’d operate them for a while before I sold them. Real estate has always been at the back of my mind, I knew that’s what I’d end up doing. Everything I’d done prior to getting into real estate was learning. With all your experience in the new home construction process, did you find the Certified New Home Specialist™ Training to be valuable? Rick: [The training is about] the sequence of managing buyer’s expectations – something you don’t pick up out in the field. You know everything about building: baseboards and crown moldings types, different architectural designs. But as far as managing what the buyer is expecting – from picking a lot, starting the construction of the home, until the day you hand them the keys – managing buyer expectations is crucial. Dennis and Teresa have the program for this. He is so familiar with construction himself. He knows every headache that can come up. I do too, but I just didn’t know how to manage the headaches. Dennis does it very well and he takes you from A to Z in that program. |

If an agent didn’t know anything about new home construction would this training help them feel comfortable? Rick: [Dennis] provides you with enough information in that course, the Certified New Home Specialist™, to take a person off the street who knows nothing – wouldn’t know the front end of a hammer from the back end of a hammer – to where they’d be comfortable. If they study that material and go through all of his dialogues they would be very confident in selling new homes. Send your stories of success to success@sellnewhomes.com...
