Vegas Wasn't a Bust for
the International Builders’ Show 2004
This year’s International
Builder Show – sponsored by the National Association of Homebuilders –
brought a record number of attendees to Las Vegas (104,627 attendees to be
exact). This show is the place where builders go to see and be seen. More
than 1,600 manufacturers and suppliers filled the exhibit halls with new
products, methods and materials. Press conferences and educational seminars
covered topics ranging from economic forecasts, to smart growth, to business
management, trends and other housing issues.
One much touted highlight of the show was the New American Home 2004. This
home features the latest in trends and technology that today’s buyers are
looking for. The new home is built with an open, loft-type plan, which is
seen as a popular trend by buyers seeking flexible interior space. Energy
efficiency is a high priority in the New American Home – this home will use
46% less energy for space heating and cooling, hot water and lighting than
the standard home. Other features include: a copper shingled roof that
reflects hot Vegas sun and structural insulated panels under the copper
shingles that offer superior insulation and ventilation. The New American
Home 2004 covers 5,180 square feet and is selling for $1.3 million.
Keynote speaker for the show, former president George H. W. Bush, summed up
the event by acknowledging that, “the housing industry has always been in
the forefront of market recovery.” |
